Christina Morales Hemenway- Writer/Director
Why do I love being a filmmaker? Because a really good movie can transform one’s reality. When the muse hits, I consider it a gift that must be delivered. I love writing down my ideas, playing all the characters in my head, collaborating with great actors, artists and technicians who bring it to life and then editing it all together to stay true to the vision the muse delivered. I enjoy blurring the edges of comedy and drama-- finding a deeper meaning in the humorous or what’s funny in the drama. I strive to strike a universal cord so that each viewer feels that there is an element that is meant just for him or her, that provokes a much-needed laugh, touches upon an issue or leads to a new insight. Film captures the light. Each one of us is a light with a story to tell.
Christina's Bio
With imagination and tenacity Christina Morales Hemenway set out in her early years to be true to her inner artistic voice. As a child she would bribe the neighborhood kids to be in her productions, whether they were dance performances, plays or even a circus. Balancing classes at Community High School and Pioneer High, she graduated in 1988 with awards in singing and acting and a full scholarship to study with Marcel Marceau in his summer program in Ann Arbor.
She continued her artistic development in California where she attended California Institute of the Arts and graduated with a BFA in Theater. She stayed in the Los Angeles area to explore her interests in screenwriting, singing, song writing, movement theatre and filmmaking. While there, she wrote and directed several shorts, one music video, one industrial and two features. Her original stage play "Morgan Le Fey" was performed as part of the "LA Edgefest” and again at The Complex in Hollywood. She then brought the play to Community High School and, with the collaboration of the students, transformed it into a musical. Her first film, "Fire in the Water" was bought by Hypnotic.
Her film Dreammaker has won either the Audience Choice Award or Best Feature film in every festival in which it has played and has enjoyed successful screenings in Los Angeles, Chicago, Louisville, Ann Arbor and Rome, Italy.
She's looking forward to the release of Dancingstar Productions' next film: Naked Angel.
